IAAPS with EM-TECH at TRA2024

The University of Bath and IAAPS Ltd team attended the Transport Research Arena 2024 conference in Dublin in April, as part of a broader presentation of Horizon Europe projects managed by Innovate UK with the EM-TECH project and a 3D printed prototype of the e-gear approach.

Footfall was very high during the first two days, with attendees from various sectors, including e-bikes, CNG-powered freight trains, agricultural vehicles, and high-performance passenger cars. Representatives from all four UK nations, Ireland, and Germany were also present. Consequently, many conversations were with people who found the e-gear interesting.

The 3D-printed prototype and the presentation complemented each other well, effectively explaining the technology and its applications. Despite the increasingly virtual world, a physical model that can be handled still attracts significant attention. The LED display and prototype were effective crowd magnets and were impressive features at the Innovate UK stand.

Attendees:

Prof. Vincent Zeng – Lecturer at University of Bath

Mr. Ryan Nicholls – IAAPS Ltd Business development manager

Mr. John Bond – IAAPS Ltd Business development manager

Author: Kristina Burke – IAAPS Ltd Business project manager

RTR2024

Beginning of this year, the HighScape project was presented along with further great research projects at the RTR2024. Within this presentation, the conjoint simulation environment as supporter of innovation the EM-Tech project is part of was presented, as well. We are herewith inviting you to watch the recording on the presentation given on the HighScape project.

Increasing 🔹 energy efficiency 🔹road safety 🔹user acceptance

Increasing 🔹 energy efficiency 🔹road safety 🔹user acceptance

Within EM-Tech we are addressing important questions in terms of electric vehicle development:
🔹How to reduce the environmental footprint, especially in terms of rare earth?
🔹How to reduce production costs and
🔹How to increase the vehicle range through higher component efficiency

The results to be developed have been presented in the research paper “Innovative e-Machine and Power Electronics Solutions for e-Axle and e-Corner Vehicle Powertrains” by Bo Wang et. al. at FISITA 2023.

To access the full paper, representing a common publication with HighScape, please access the results section of our project website.

“Towards the sustainable vehicle era”

“Towards the sustainable vehicle era”

In November, Cars@PolitoPolitecnico di Torino organized and conducted the workshop “Towards the sustainable vehicle era” where the EM-Tech project has been part of the poster session.

The event, has been an excellent opportunity for both academic as well as industrial partners coming together and exchanging on most recent innovations; such as the EM-Tech partners Cars@PolitoPolitecnico di Torino, represented here by Antonella Accardo and Nicola Amati, and Ideas & Motion, represented by Claudio Romano.

Thank you very much for the fruitful exchange as well as perfect organization of the workshop!

TU Ilmenau Research Night – Practical insights into use of X-in-the-loop techniques in the domain of automotive engineeringTU Ilmenau Research Night –

Marius Heydrich from TU Ilmenau was presenting the EM-Tech project at the TU Ilmenau Research Night. Have a read on his report of this evening.

“As everyone knows, a modern vehicle is a quiet complex constellation of hard- and software components. Especially electric vehicles have more electrically driven systems than those with ICE, which increases the number of control units and software code lines as well. Therefore, new approaches are needed to accelerate the development and testing of next generation EVs. Highly common are the so-called X-in-the-loop techniques, making it possible to investigate systems and components in the virtual area before testing them in hybrid or under real-world conditions.

This approach was successfully used for vehicle and control development in the XILforEV – Horizon 2020 Project and EVC1000 Project and is now a key part in the EM-TECH project. To communicate the project and its scope to a broad audience, I participated in the Ilmenau Science night that took place on Saturday, 1st July 2023 at Technische Universität Ilmenau.

Not even the light rain on that evening stopped hundreds of people of all ages from visiting the ThIMo I building to get information about the current research activities and latest results. To tackle the weather, we moved parts of the programme into the workshop at short notice to allow visitors to attend dry. Anyway, what is a better background for speeches about automotive engineering than staples of car tires? 😁

With speeches of approximately 20 minutes, me and other researchers of the Automotive Engineering Group intended to make our research visible and understandable for everyone. In my speech, I explained the X-in-the-loop approach, which was the perfect framework to also communicate the EM-TECH project to the people and to further discuss the background.

In my opinion, the event was perfect for promoting the project and its recognition by a broad public audience. Hopefully, the next Ilmenau Science Night in 2025 will be the framework for more detailed discussions!””

Marius, thank you very much for your great presentation and for sharing your thoughts with us!
